Junior Laycee Josoff shoots the ball from the three point line against Arlington last year. This will be Josoff’s third year playing basketball.

Yutan High School started the school year with many accomplishments from the girls fall sports. Now the players are ready to keep that success going in the winter season with basketball.

“Watching them all through the fall be successful in their fall sports and competing the way that they did really got me excited for what’s to come,” girls basketball head coach Clayton Carlton said.

The ten returning members are looking forward to growing as a team and gaining experience. The six new players are excited to get to know the girls and to see what Yutan basketball has to offer them.

“I am looking forward to making new friendships and getting closer with all the girls,” freshman Gabi Tederman said.

From last year to this year, one thing the team has grown in was their chemistry. Fall sports helped the girls build on their previous friendships, and the new school year has helped with new friendships and the chemistry on the team..

“I think that this team has a lot of potential, we have great chemistry, and we will be able to go as far as we want to,” sophomore Haley Kube said.

Last year the team lacked height and struggled with consistent scoring. Many of the players and coaches said that finishing the play and scoring will be important this year.

“I’d say that we struggled last year with finishing and not executing,” junior Laycee Josoff said. “I think this year we will be able to score more because we have more experience and chemistry on the court.”

Both new and returning players are ready to stay focused and give it all they have to make it as far as possible this season.

“I think that we just need to stay committed throughout the whole season and not let up,” junior Kennedy Andrews said. “We just always have to give it our full potential.”

The coaches are ready to help the team get better with each chance they have and the girls are there to put in the work while still enjoying each other and the season.

“You have to focus on right now and making sure that we enjoy the process of the season and continually get better at every practice and every time we step on the floor for a game,” Carlton said.
