The movies that make Christmas
Around Christmas time, one of the most practiced traditions is watching Christmas movies. Some people have a hard time figuring out which Christmas movies would appeal to them. I know one of my favorite movies is a comedy called Christmas Vacation.
Christmas Vacation is about a family man named Clark Griswold and his attempt to bring his entire family into his house to spend Christmas with. With everyone crammed into his house, there are lots of funny arguments and hilarious scenes of everything falling apart, including a Christmas tree on fire, a dog chasing a squirrel around the house, Griswold’s boss being kidnapped by his cousin and to cap it all off, a very dry turkey.
I enjoy Christmas Vacation because everyone is used to a perfect Christmas while the movie shows Griswold’s going down in flames.
Comedies like Christmas Vacation are a great way to have fun while watching movies; all the laughter and jokes are an easy way to put yourself into the Christmas spirit.
Sophomore Kasen Scott is someone that enjoys comedy movies. “I’d say more comedy because it’s Christmas. It’s fun.”
Junior Shaylynn Campbell also is into comedies, and one of her favorites is Home Alone because of the laughter it brings.
“Like in Home Alone with all the different things that he’s doing to trick the robbers,” Campbell said, “that always gets a laugh out of everyone.”
Inspirational movies are also a great way to get into the holiday cheer and be grateful for what you have in your life.
“I really love inspirational stories that just make you feel warm and fuzzy and happy inside,” English teacher Ginger Eikmeier said. “It just makes you feel good and it makes you think about all of the things in your life that you maybe take for granted.”
If you are looking for an inspirational Christmas movie to watch, one of Eikmeier’s favorite movies is It’s a Wonderful Life. I think it is a great movie because it does put in perspective everything you should be grateful for in your life.
Along with Christmas movies, there are many Christmas traditions that people can partake in. Every year I make treats such as chocolate gingerbread boys and candy cane sugar cookies with my family and drink hot chocolate and sit around the fireplace while watching Christmas comedies.
Scott also has some similar traditions.
“I’d say [eating] Christmas cookies and drinking hot chocolate for sure.”
Campbell has her own movie traditions with her siblings.
“We always get matching pajamas for Christmas,” Campbell said. “We always wear pajamas around Christmas time and we snuggle up on the floor and watch Christmas movies all day.”
If you are looking to get into the Christmas spirit and holiday cheer, try one of these movies or traditions.
