Experience of a lifetime
Singer-songwriter Jason Derulo surprises Nebraska Elite Volleyball
Everyone hears the stories of fans being surprised by celebrities, but for the National Nebraska Elite volleyball teams, this became their reality. On the afternoon of Mar. 6, the Elite volleyball team was surprised by singer-songwriter Jason Derulo, who sponsored the pro volleyball league.
“At first I didn’t really know who he was, and then my team just started freaking out and was like it’s Jason Derulo,” sophomore Mckenna Jones said.
Even the players that were on the court at the time noticed a new face.
“I was on the serving line and I saw somebody walk in, so I had to look, but I didn’t know who it was at first. Then I did a double take and realized it was Jason Derulo,” freshman Amelia North said.
Derulo played full scrimmages with the top 16s and 17s teams. During this time, the girls were impressed with his volleyball skills and how social he was.
“I was kind of shocked at first but then I was like, okay, he’s fun to be around. He’s just a normal person,” North said.
After the practice was over, Derulo started looking at courts to rent for the pro volleyball league. While he was doing this, the girls couldn’t believe what had just happened.
“It was just kind of unbelievable. We were all super happy and everyone had a really good night,” junior Ellie Lloyd said.
This night will definitely have a lasting effect on the girls and the future of the program.
“I hope that this experience will make girls want to come out and join our team to help grow the volleyball league here,” Jones said.
