Student body president is a role that requires a role model, a leader and a kind-hearted person to fill the spot. The person aiming to fill that position this year is senior Clark Cogdill.
“President Clark is personable, he is outgoing and he’s willing to talk to anybody. I’d say he gets along extremely well with others. He’s passionate and he’s not afraid to work hard, all good things in a student body president,” student council sponsor Alyssa Hansen said.
Even though Cogdill had never been in student council before this year, he developed his leadership skills outside of school.
“In the past summers, I’ve worked for property development. I had to lead a group of teenagers on the ways of mowing, weed whacking and digging trenches. I had to lead that small group throughout the whole summer. That was definitely one of the biggest roles I’ve had,” Cogdill said.
These out-of-school experiences added to experiences Cogdill has had in cross country and speech team influenced him to take over the role of president.
“What drove me to be a student body president was it was always the natural intent, the strive for a leadership role,” Cogdill said.
Now that he’s president, Cogdill is excited to use his leadership skills in different school activities.
“What I like about my job is I’m involved in most of the Yutan activities, like setting up for homecoming and being a part of that planning process,” Cogdill said.
One of Cogdill’s goals as president is to build a strong and colorful school environment.
“I really want the school environment to be a more fun environment, more fun activities to do, more fun traditions that can hopefully be carried down all the way throughout Yutan,” Cogdill said.
Clark’s goal is very evident to his peers.
“I can tell he really cares about this school and he wants to put his best effort in every time he steps into these doors,” junior Carson Jurey said. “He’s a very kind and outgoing guy that can heavily impact this building and the people in it,” Jurey said.
Cogdill is hopeful to use these traits to build a strong foundation for the school and for his future.
“It’s really just a building block and a really good experience stepping in a position like this. It chisels out a path for the future,” Cogdill said.
