When senior Bennett Ell woke up the morning of Friday, Oct. 4, he had no idea that he would end the day as Yutan’s 2024 homecoming king.
“I was really surprised. I honestly didn’t think I was gonna win,” Ell said.
Although Ell was doubtful of whether he would come out on top, he felt his connections helped edge him to victory.
“I know a lot of people, especially having my little brother in the school. I know a lot of younger kids too. So I feel like I have a good connection with a lot of them, seeing them in their sports and other activities,” Ell said.
Fellow senior Britney Zeleny, who was voted queen, has also noticed the connections Ell has with everyone throughout the school.
“He is very enthusiastic. He’s kind to everybody and a great role model for everybody, even the younger kids,” Zeleny said.
Kindness is something that Ell strives for, it doesn’t matter the situation he may be in.
“I think I am a caring guy that looks after a lot of people, always trying to be there for anybody,” Ell said.
According to his younger brother, Ell’s impact shines in his personality and his looks.
“Bennett is a good fit for king because he is very cute and he’s handsome,” seventh grader Griffin Ell said.
Going into the day, Ell knew he had a chance at king, but his mind was not on coronation.
“I enjoyed playing games with my friends the whole day, and then the game afterward was what made the day super fun,” Ell said.
Finishing the day as king was icing on the cake, though Ell stays humble.
“I don’t feel different, but being king is something that I will always look back on as I get older,” Ell said.
Even though homecoming is over, Ell hopes that the underclassmen can continue in his footsteps.
“I hope people can learn a lot from me, like the way I treat people, so they continue to do great things and carry on the traditions,” Ell said.
