Imagine you’re walking out of your house and get sprayed with water while you’re in a game to win a prize. Almost all the seniors have been doing that for a couple of months as part of a game called “Senior Assassin.”
Senior Assassin is a game played by many schools, starting in Yutan last year. Each senior gets assigned a “target” that they have to eliminate with a water gun. Every time they eliminate one of their targets, they will get a new one. They are all on the Life360 app to help track each other. Some places are off limits, like work, school and school events. Otherwise, students have to wear goggles to be safe from being eliminated.
“I wanted to do Senior Assassin because of all the fun memories I heard others making while doing it,” senior Britney Zeleny said. “The award is the money that we paid to get into the game. At the beginning, it was $120, but then after buyback, it has gone up to $155, I believe.”

Every once in a while, the seniors would have a challenge, such as the purge. During the purge, there would be a couple of people on the “bounty” list, which meant anyone could eliminate those people at any point in the day.
“One day it was purge, and Millie was one of the bounties, so we could get her at any time, and Gabi, we noticed that she went out the back door, and Gabi took off running,” Zeleny said. “Then they went running all the way around past the church and then through the neighborhood. And then Gabi finally got her.”
The senior game still has two remaining players: Tannen Honke and Britney Zeleny.
“Now that it’s down to less people, it’s easier to figure out who has you, but at the beginning, it was like a long list of people, and you didn’t know who had who,” Zeleny said.
Strategies are useful when it comes to eliminating people; for example, senior Aubrie Pehrson got eight eliminations with her strategies.
“My strategy was to always catch people off guard when they weren’t expecting it. Whenever I got a new target, I would take every possible opportunity to get them out; I wouldn’t let them breathe. I would get people in the weight room, walking in or out of the school at basketball games, in their own driveway, etc,” Pehrson said.
Even with her strategies, however, Pehrson was still eliminated.
“A challenge from Senior Assassin was that you always had to be aware of who was around you, and you always had to wear goggles. That was how I got out: because I let my guard down and didn’t check Life360. I walked out of my house without goggles. Then Britney got me out,” Pehrson said.

This was a common struggle for seniors going places because they didn’t want to get eliminated, but may not have wanted to wear their goggles.
“I would go out shopping, and I wouldn’t know if I’d have to bring my goggles. So the hard part is that you don’t know who has you. So it’s always a guessing game,” Zeleny said.
Those seniors who were always prepared and aware were rewarded, though.
“Tannen was the hardest to eliminate because he always wore his goggles every time he left his house or a building. I attempted to get him twice; when he was at work, he literally called Bennett to bring him goggles so I couldn’t get him out, and at his house, he wore his goggles until he got inside,” Pehrson said.
This attempt was Honke’s favorite memory of the game.
“My favorite memory was when I was at work and checked locations and saw that the Pehrsons were waiting for me outside. I texted them saying I have my goggles (I didn’t) and that I get off work at eleven o’clock. It was only eight, and they waited for me the whole time. It was one of the weeks when I was on a team, so Bennett drove to my work and ran and brought goggles to me,” Honke said.
Honke also had some of his own struggles but was eventually able to eliminate his most recent target.
“Alexis (Pehrson) was really hard to get. It took me a few tries. She always wore her goggles and checked locations. Aubrie even tried to help me by stealing her goggles, but she had back ups,” Honke said.
While the game ended in a truce between Zeleny and Honke, even if seniors were eliminated, they still got to make many memories.
“Senior Assassin is a fun game for seniors to go out and have a fun time and experience,” Zeleny said.
