Yutan cheerleaders create personal, team goals for school year

Goals are important factors in teams because they drive the team and encourage them to keep working. Cheer coach Megan Callahan has many goals for this year’s cheer team.

“My three main goals would be to have more community engagement, and then getting more student engagement and support for the only the cheer team, but also for sports,” Callahan said. “And then to do more fundraisers so that the cheer team can be able to be more self-sufficient without spending a lot of money.”

Callahan has multiple plans to help her achieve her goals, such as more engagement, and fun activities for the student section in hopes of getting them more involved.

“For community engagement, we’re going to do a football cheer camp that is actually coming up in a couple of weeks. For student engagement, the team has taken over deciding the themes for the games such as Hawaiian, jersey and blackout,”  Callahan said.

Cheer captain junior Libby Winn has her own goals for the cheer team.

“My goals for this year’s team is for us to build better relationships than we have in the past and to just be a better and more of a team overall,”  Winn said.

Winn has her own tactics for achieving her goals.

“I’m going to use hard work and dedication because I feel like that’s really a lot of what the team needs,” Winn said.

Everyone in a team can have goals that benefit the overall team, but personal goals are also important. Freshman Halle Arlt has some of her own personal goals.

“I want to get a lot better in cheer, and I really want to learn how to do stuff and eventually be a captain. I think if I want to be a captain when I’m older, I really have to work harder,”  Arlt said.

Arlt’s main tactic is hard work and kindness.

“I’m going to work hard and practice, just be a team player and help other people when they need help. And to overall be nice,” Arlt said.

Winn believes that by the end of the year the cheer team can be really successful.

“I think by the end of the year, the team can be really successful if everyone makes sure they’re practicing, and they have a stick-to-it attitude. So, if everyone puts in the effort, I think we can really be good.”
