Review – Spider-Man: No Way Home
Third Spider-Man brings many twists that fans will enjoy
Eight live-action movies and three different sets of actors later, Spider-Man remains one of the most popular characters in action movie history. Whether you have seen them all or not, we can all agree that there will never be enough.
“Spider-Man: No Way Home” was released on Dec. 17, 2021, and has a runtime of 148 minutes. The long-awaited movie stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker, Zendaya as MJ, and Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, continuing the inseparable trio from the most recent two movies.
The film resumes where the previous movie, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” left off. The identity of Spider-Man had been publicly released, leading Peter Parker to a much different life than before. Accompanied by his best friend, Ned, and girlfriend, MJ, they struggle to lead normal lives. The three of them applied for college together, but Peter Parker gets negative publicity for being known as Spider-Man and doesn’t get accepted. Because they are associated with Spider-Man, MJ’s and Ned’s applications also get declined. This leads Parker to Doctor Steven Strange to create a spell that would cause everyone to forget he was Spider-Man. However, the spell is messed up in an effort to change it halfway through the process, and it needs to be contained. Parker then tracks down the college administrator to attempt to convince her to change her mind about the trio’s applications. He ends up encountering hostile enemies of Spider-Man from alternate universes that were summoned from the altered spell.
Strange, Parker, MJ and Ned are forced to work together despite their contrasting personalities. This relationship adds comedy to the plot while still maintaining the seriousness.
Special appearances are made in the movie. I think that those appearances add an exciting twist. There are many touching moments in the backstories, which motivates the characters even more.
Many of the characters have been built up throughout the other Marvel movies, so there is much more emotion that the audience will feel. Although there are some heartbreaking moments, it only makes the movie that much better because of the reactions and feelings that were built up towards the characters.
The exceptional acting in the movie also makes this film enjoyable to watch. The way each actor or actress portrays their character brings it all together.
The producers also found a way to keep the story going if they wished to create another film by expanding some characters and leaving the ending open.
According to Rotten Tomatoes, critics rated the movie at a high 93% and audience members rated it at an even higher 98%. This movie is worth every percentage of these ratings and more. Overall, it is very well put together, with the right amount of humor and emotion intertwined to create a movie that is a perfect mix of everything.
